The Musical Stylings of

MAGNOLIA JOE

I make simple singer-songwriter music.

In my work with community organization I constantly find myself surrounded by musicians, usually of much more talent than myself. I think it was some president that said “a good leader is he who surrounds himself with people smarter than himself”- for me, that, but for music.

I just released my third demo album, Caravan Demos III, available for streaming on SoundCloud! Might make an attempt to get it onto Spotify. Maybe.

The Caravan Demos series has really been an attempt to get my music out and learn a bit about proper recording. To prove I’m learning, Caravan Demos III will be my first album to use proper microphones and interfaces! Caravan Demos I, II and II.5 were recorded using a Samsung G-Track microphone, directly into Audacity. Lots of carefully balancing that mic on my lap or stacks of books. Now I’ve got microphone stands!

Would like to record an album based on the music written during the Magnolia Tree days (a short lived band with some lovely friends), a piano EP dedicated to Jack Rodenburg, a linear story-telling album about Sterling, Nebraska with Happy John, and just a fourth songwriter album, this time with a proper title and care to production, inspired by either protest folk or Pete Seeger.
